Determinants of Competitiveness of Exports of Chilean Table Grapes, 1984-2004
The Chilean fruit industry has managed to position itself as one of the most prosperous in the country’s export basket and has had a signifi cant importance in the global market, managed to become the second largest exporter worldwide. Given the above, study the competitiveness of the industry is important for export development of the Chilean agribusiness and the economy in general. Therefore, the aim of this study was to measure the competitiveness of table grape through Vollrath’s index (1991) and study its determinants. The analysis showed that the competitiveness indicator was generally increased until 2002 and that the main determinants of competitiveness are the real exchange rate and real gross domestic product
