  Abstract
Willingness to Pay for the Improvement of Residential Solid Waste Collection in Talca
The willingness to pay (WTP) for an improvement in the residential solid waste (RSW) collection service in the city of Talca was determined. The Contingent valuation method in its simple dichotomic format was used, assuming a linear function and a logistic distribution. It was observed a positive correlation between the socioeconomic level, knowledge, disposition to classify the RSW and the WTP for a recycling service, which is negatively related with the protest responses in the contingent market. The principal conclusion suggests that a favorable behavior can be induced on people through the knowledge they possess. The value of the WTP for the project was estimated at $203,7 millions monthly, a value that is higher than the $9,5 million monthly cost and than the $42 million investment cost.
