Economic Valuation of Lenga Wetland by Choice Experiments
This study uses a choice experiment to determine the economic value of Lenga
wetland in Concepción, Chile. We elicited visitors’ preferences over a proposed tourism project
and a bird conservation program for the wetland. The attributes of the project included wetland
area, bird species number and tourism works such as parking lots, site seeing spots and play
grounds. With a binomial logit regression, we found that tourism works is the most valued attributed
and that an ideal scenario includes a program that favors tourism works and fosters increasing
visiting birds while reducing wetland area.
