  Abstract
Determinants of the Competitiveness of Chilean Wine Exports
The Chilean wine industry has great importance on Chilean exports income and has managed to obtain a significant presence in the world-wide market, being the fifth producer of the world. Given the aforementioned, it is important to study the competitiveness that this industry has for the exporting development of the Chilean agro-industrial sector and for the economy in general. For this reason, the objective of this work was to measure the competitiveness of the wine industry through the indices of Balassa and Vollrath and to study its determinants. The analysis of the indicators showed that the competitiveness, in general, increased until 2001, and that the main determinants of the competitiveness are the real exchange rate, the price of copper, the price of the wine and the real gross internal product, with small differences depending on the index used.
